Spring Fashion Show by Artichoke Collection.
New Collection for sizes 8 to 24 in Clothing and Accessories for Country Living.

Ditchingham WI would like to invite you, family and friends to come to our Fashion Show on Thursday 13th March 2014 at Poringland Community Centre, Overtons Way, Poringland. Commencing at 7.15 for 7.30pm.
The cost will be £3.00 per head payable on arrival, tea/coffee and biscuits will be provided.

AGM • Social Afternoon


Members were welcome to the November meeting at Ditchingham Village Hall.  Apologies were received from Maureen, Sylvia, Pam and Jenny. Members stood to sing Jerusalem.  A new member Margaret was welcomed.  Birthday posies were handed to Sylvia, Jenny, Margaret, Lucie and the President handed one to herself.  Viv was thanked for making them.  The room had been decorated by the members and a special birthday cake made by Margaret for the Presidents 60th Birthday.  A card and voucher was handed to Sue by Barbara on behalf of the members saying thank you for all her hard work building up the WI  and wishing her a very happy birthday.   Invites were read out from Haddiscoe, Thurlton and Poringland.  Correspondence was read out from County Federation. Next year is proving to be exciting with the in-house scrabble day organised for 26th February, a fashion show by Artichoke Fashion from Hingham organised on 13th March at Poringland Community Centre, a visit to Van Dal shoes on 16th April and a visit to Waveney Bees at Barsham on 21st May.  Members were asked to help Emmaus by baking cakes - many members taking up the challenge. The Annual meeting then took place.  Sue gave a report of the last year in which members celebrated their 95th birthday,  she concluded by thanking committee and members for all their hard work and looked forward to the next 5 years and celebrating the centenary. A big thank you to two members leaving the committee Gwen and Maureen - each being given a card and plant.  Two new committee members were welcomed - Pam being Vice President and Jenny - Minute Secretary. The President will continue. The December meeting is the Christmas meal which will take place at Browston Hall on December 11th  meeting at Ditchingham Village Hall at 12.00

Expedition to the Antarctic


Members were welcome to the October meeting at Ditchingham Village Hall.  Apologies were received from Barbara, Helen Pam and Jenny.   Birthday plants was handed to Jo, Janet and Pam. A plant and card was handed to Anne on the celebration of her Ruby Wedding Anniversary.  A Report was given on the Group Meeting held at Poringland Community Centre - the subject being Norwich Shawls.  This was a very enjoyable evening.  Details were given out regarding the Royal Norfolk Show and the Cator Cup.  Invites were read out from South Norfolk Group and Hedenham WI.  The President introduced Sue Surshaw who had come to speak on the recent expedition to the Antarctic.  This proved to be a very interesting subject with Sue beginning with a brief history of the area before showing slides of the places she had visited and the wildlife she had seen.  She was thanked by the Gwen. The result of the competition - a scarf from any medium was 1st - Jean,  2nd Pam and 3rd  Anne. The November meeting is the AGM followed by a social afternoon at the village hall at 2.30.

Talk by Pauline Baker when working as a costumier for television and theatre.


Members were welcome to the September meeting at Ditchingham Village Hall.  Apologies were received from Anne, Pam, Gwen,  Jean and Jenny.   Birthday posy was handed to Maxine and also received a card for her special birthday.  The President thank all the members for their hard work at the August meeting which was a great success.  All the cards and thank you letters were read out and passed round for members to see.  Invites were read out from Mettingham, Broome and the Redenhall Group.   The Treasurer Beryl asked if any more members wished to join the 500 club.  The President then introduced Pauline Baker who spoke on Frock Horror.  Pauline told us stories and horrors of working as a costumier for television and theatre. She also explained the problems of working on films when producers do not run in sequence. She was thanked by the President. The result of the competition - an old Norfolk postcard  was 1st - Pauline,  2nd Beryl and 3rd  Helen. The October meeting is Sue Surshaw talking on her trip to Antartic at the Village Hall on 9th October at 2.30.  Friends and new members always welcome.

95th Birthday Celebrations.

Ditchingham WI are 95 years old and how we celebrated.  The Village Hall was packed with well over a hundred members, friends and guests.  The President, Sue Huggins, welcomed Sally Paramour,  the County Chairman, plus guests from various WI’s around the area.  The meeting began with the singing of Jerusalem which was sung with great enthusiasm with the accompaniment of Annette and Suzie our entertainment for the afternoon.  Birthday posies were handed to Viv and Helen and cards and plants handed to Jackie, Pam and Pam on their Ruby and Golden Wedding Anniversaries.   Suzie and Annette began the afternoons entertainment of singing a variety of songs from the musicals with members and guests joining in.  The entertainment finished with the singing of old tyme songs and received great applause from the floor and it was thoroughly deserved.  Sue Huggins then invited Sally Paramour to cut the 95th Birthday cake.  Before doing so she thank the committees past and president for their hard work in keeping the WI going for 95 years even older than the Federation.   Home made refreshments of sandwiches, cakes and tea and coffee were served by the members of Ditchingham WI.  The extravagant raffle finished the afternoon.  Sue then thanked her members for all their hard work and said it couldn’t have happened without them.  She also thanked all the guest who had helped them celebrate their birthday meeting and wished them a safe journey home.  Sue and the members of Ditchingham were thanked for a delightful afternoon by Eileen Leathers on behalf of the guests.

Kay Jefford - Womens rights during the 20th century.

The July meeting began with the singing of Jerusalem. Apologies were received from Janet, Pam and  Helen.   Birthday posies was handed to Jean, Margaret and Jenny.  Margaret and Jenny also received cards for their special birthdays.  The President thanked all members who had decorated hats for the Royal Norfolk Show stand.  Seven were made by Ditchingham and the total for the county was 20 - so we can hold our heads up high!!  Invites were read out from Thurlton, Rockland, Mettingham, Poringland and Broome.  Preparations were finalized for the August Birthday meeting where several replies had already been received - so looks like being a fun afternoon!!!!  The Treasurer announced we had another win on the 500 club and members signed up for next year.   The speaker Kay Jefford was introduced - this proved to be a very interesting talk on Womens rights during the 20th century.  There was lots of feedback during the talk with members trying to guess dates when various things happened.  Life for women during the last 100 years has changed greatly in some countries but in other countries women were still used and abused.  The result of the competition - an animal photo was 1st - Maureen, 2nd Sue and 3rd   Jean. The August meeting is our open 95th Birthday meeting at the Village Hall on 14th August at 2.30.  Friends and new members always welcome.
