2017 subscription rates announced

• The NFWI Board of Trustees has set the membership subscription for 2016 at £37.50
• £19 of the subscription is kept by your WI, £8.80 will go to your federation and £11.20 will go to the NFWI
• Subscriptions are due in January 2017. The WI subscription year runs from January to December
• New members joining the WI for the first time, i.e. who have not previously been a member of any WI in the past 10 years, will pay a pro-rata subscription depending on the quarter in which they join The rate per quarter is shown in the following table

• WI members can belong to more than one WI, by paying the full membership fee to the first WI, and a further £19 to any additional WIs at any time of the year. There is no pro-rata rate for dual membership
• Each WI holds a minimum of eleven meetings each year and all members can contribute ideas to the annual programme of speakers, activities and events
• WI Members will receive eight copies per year of the WI membership magazine, WI Life and be able to access resources and information on the website and the WI Moodle. WIs are also kept up to date with news by regular mailings from the NFWI
• Federations also keep members informed about the wide variety of activities they offer to members regionally

Xmas Lunch held at Beauchamp Arms, Langley.

December we enjoyed a superb Xmas lunch with a glass or two of wine at the Beauchamp Arms in the company of the lovely ladies of Ditchingham WI, once again santa visited with a pressy and card.

Our next meeting is at 'The Village Hall' from 2:30pm until 4:30 on January 13th 2016 where we meet on the 2nd Wednesday of every month. We are a very relaxed and friendly group so please come along where you would be made most welcome and enjoy our guest speaker Mark Mower with us talking about 'Murder & Mystery' ho ho ho, should be a good talk.

Ditchingham AGM

DITCHINGHAM WI

The November meeting was the last time we meet at the Village Hall this year.  It has been a very busy year for the WI in its 97th year.  We have had some good talks including 3D fabric flowers, a talk by the Dogs Trust, an Antiques Roadshow and an amusing talk by a Tourist Information Officer.  We have tried our hands at a Decoupage workshop and all took home a decorated flowerpot and finally in November had a holly wreath making demonstration.  We entertained several other institutes for our August Meeting where Nick Conrad from Radio Norfolk entertained over 100 members and guests.  For the WI Centenary we went to Earsham Hall for a guided tour followed by afternoon tea - we were all thoroughly spoilt.  For our final meeting of the year we will all be going to Beauchamp Arms Langley for our Carvery Christmas meal.  At the November meeting we also held a brief AGM as all committee members were standing again so everything stays the same.  On a personal note I would like to thank all the members for helping me through this year - but we still seem to have been active!!! We are now looking forward to our 98th year.

Our Visit to Earsham Hall in September 2015.

2015 saw every branch of the Womens Insitute celebrate 100 years.  Many different events were planned for this great birthday event.
Thanks to our President Sue all members at Ditchingham celebrated by a visit to Earsham Hall. We were welcomed on arrival by our  guide Annibel who gave us tea and coffee in the lovely entrance hall and gave us the history of the owners through the years.

The tour was approx 2 hours and was really interesting, we then enjoyed afternoon tea in the tea rooms.

A wonderful afternoon enjoyed by every one.

Mark Mower - Talk on Suffolk Murders.

The Committee room was bursting at the seams as we started the New Year.  The President informed members of the passing of Violet Webb who had been a long standing member although not for a few years due to illness.  Birthday posies were handed to Pauline and Pauline.  A very good rendition of Jerusalem was sung.  Members were reminded for entries for the Upper Waveney Exhibition.  The speaker Mark Mower was introduced.  His talk on Suffolk Murders proved most interesting with members thoroughly enjoying the afternoon.  Many members won raffle prizes and the competition - something beginning with J - was won by Janet (a photo of herself) second was Jo ( a jar of jam) and third Beryl (juniper berries).  Next meeting 11th February at 2.30 at Village Hall. Speaker - Georgette Vale - 3D   Fabric Flowers. Competition something beginning with F.

Novembers AGM

The President welcomed members to the November meeting of Ditchingham WI. Apologies were received from Jenny P, Barbara, Pam, Anne, Helen, and Maureen.  Birthday plants were handed to Jenny, Lucie, Margaret and the President gave herself one.  The President reported that Ditchingham had won the Competition at the Group meeting - a poem on housework - Anne Arnold was congratulated on her composition and Pam Lack for her performing it on the evening.  Invites were read out from various Wi’s and boards sent round.  The Christmas meal has been booked at Browston Hall on December 10th at 12.30.   Next years programme was sent round for members to add their names for Teas, Birthday Posies and Vote of Thanks.

The Annual Meeting then continued.  The President said this year had been very challenging with the passing of past and current members and also close family of members.   We are looking forward to the Centenary year with lots happening.  Barbara was presented with a plant as she has retired from the committee and a plant as handed the Beryl who has decided to stand down as Treasurer but is staying on the committee.  Pam Lack was welcomed onto the committee.  Pam Cooper is taking on the role of Treasurer.  The meeting continued with teas served by Viv and helpers and the afternoon finished with a game of pass the parcel and lots of laughter.

The President welcomed members to the July meeting.  Apologies were received from Janet, Pam B, Gwen,Maureen, Jenny and Anne. The minutes were read, approved and signed. The correspondence was read.  The Waveney Group will be holding a Garden Party on 29th July 2015 to celebrate the Centenary of Women’s Institutes. Members had enjoyed visits to Thurton and Thurlton Wi’s.  Ditchingham are going to enter Loddon Horticultural Society competition in September. An invite was given out from Poringland WI Garden Party.   Final arrangements were made for our open meeting in August when the entertainer will be Charlie Haylock.  The President then introduced the Speaker Pat Deliss - her subject being ‘and we only wanted a pony’.   This jogged many memories for some members and proved to be a very interesting and entertainment talk.  Pat was thanked on behalf of us all. The Competition a decorated horseshoe was won by Margaret Baker.  Tea was served by Maxine and helpers.

Visit to Waveney Bees

On 21st May 2014 several members had a very enjoyable afternoon when they had a visit to see the bees at Waveney.
As you can see from the photos they enjoyed dressing up.

Brian Heard gave a talk on his involvement with Scotland Yard.

The President welcomed members to the June meeting.   Condolences were sent to Beryl of her recent bereavement - our thought are all with her.  Apologies were received from Barbara, Beryl, Jenny, and Helen. The minutes were read, approved and signed. The correspondence was read.  The Waveney Group will be holding a Garden Party on 29th July 2015 to celebrate the Centenary of Women’s Institutes. The March meeting began with the President welcoming all and the singing of Jerusalem.  Apologies were received from Jackie, Jenny and Beryl.  Jenny read the minutes of the February meeting and these were signed as correct. The Scrabble day had been a great success with members enjoying the day and returning home full of food..  The Group Meeting is on 31st March at Poringland Community Centre and the speaker is Carol Bundock.  We have had an invite to Alburgh WI on April 8th, the speaker being Joyce Kimber.  Final arrangements were discussed for the Fashion Show on March 13th at Poringland Community Centre.   The Speaker - Pip Wright was introduced. He had come to speak on Travelling East Anglia on a Bus Pass.  This was a very interesting talk with slides of how far you can travel in a day on a bus pass.  The competition of an interesting post card was won by Anne H - 2nd Maxine and 3rd Maureen.  April meeting is on 9th at 2.30 the speaker being Andy Malcolm on the History of Fish and Chips and the competition is Mr Potato Head!

Since the meeting the Fashion Show has taken place.  This proved to be a most successful evening with over 80 members, friends and guests attending.  A big thank you to Pam C for helping me organise it and a bigger thank you to the models - Pam L, Barbara, Jenny, Anne A, Viv and Margaret H.  A very enjoyable evening was had by all, if not a little nerve trembling at times!!!

The Committee Room at the Village Hall seems to be getting smaller as another new member came to join the fold for the February meeting.  The meeting began with the singing of Jerusalem.  Apologies were received from Margaret, Anne and Maureen.  Birthday posies made by Jo were handed to Beryl and Pam.  Jenny read the minutes of the January meeting and these were signed as correct.  Details for the Scrabble Day on 27th February were finalized - coffee and biscuits will be served at 10.00 am before the first game.  The Fashion Show being held at Poringland Community Centre on 13th March at 7.30 was discussed.  So far we have had replies from about 5 institutes but hopefully more will come in the next two weeks.  Models for the evening are Pam, Barbara, Anne, Viv, Jenny, Margaret and Sue.  Raffle, door and refreshments were all discussed.  The evening is an open invitation so please come to see the fine clothes from the Artichoke Collection.  The Speaker John Wood was introduced.  He began by tell us how he got into Banking on the advice of his schools career officer but after doing several meanial jobs within the Bank decided he was going nowhere so left and went to teacher training.  After working his way up through several schools finished as Head Teacher at Walpole Primary School.  In his latter years of teaching the paperwork overtook the teaching so decided to retire.  The competition ‘a school day poem’ was won by Maxine, 2nd Jenny and 3rd Anne. The March meeting is held on 12th at 2.30 at the Village Hall.  The speaker Pip Wright will talk on ‘exploring East Anglia by Bus Pass’.

Norfolk and Suffolk 4 x 4 Response Team

DITCHINGHAM WI

The January meeting started with the President hoping everybody had a good Christmas and wishing all a happy new year and also welcoming two new members.  The speaker Jim Whitehead was welcomed who had come to talk to us on Norfolk and Suffolk 4 x 4 Response team and also winter driving.  This proved to be a very interesting meeting with members learning lots of tips when driving in difficult weather conditions.  Jim judged the competition of ‘my favourite Christmas card’ - 1st - Maureen, 2nd -Pam L and 3rd Maxine.  The Cup for the most points gained last year was presented to Maxine.   Details for the scrabble day were circulated with members detailing the food rota. Apologies were received from Janet.  Birthday posies were handed to Pauline, Pam and Pauline.  Next months meeting is on 12th February at the Village Hall at 2.30.  The speaker John Wood - from Bank Clerk to Head Teacher.

Ditchingham WI would like to invite you, family and friends to come to our Fashion Show on Thursday 13^th March 2014 at Poringland Community Centre, Overtons Way, Poringland. Commencing at 7.15 for 7.30pm.

The cost will be £3.00 per head payable on arrival, tea/coffee and biscuits will be provided.

AGM • Social Afternoon

Members were welcome to the November meeting at Ditchingham Village Hall.  Apologies were received from Maureen, Sylvia, Pam and Jenny. Members stood to sing Jerusalem.  A new member Margaret was welcomed.  Birthday posies were handed to Sylvia, Jenny, Margaret, Lucie and the President handed one to herself.  Viv was thanked for making them.  The room had been decorated by the members and a special birthday cake made by Margaret for the Presidents 60th Birthday.  A card and voucher was handed to Sue by Barbara on behalf of the members saying thank you for all her hard work building up the WI  and wishing her a very happy birthday.   Invites were read out from Haddiscoe, Thurlton and Poringland.  Correspondence was read out from County Federation. Next year is proving to be exciting with the in-house scrabble day organised for 26th February, a fashion show by Artichoke Fashion from Hingham organised on 13th March at Poringland Community Centre, a visit to Van Dal shoes on 16th April and a visit to Waveney Bees at Barsham on 21st May.  Members were asked to help Emmaus by baking cakes - many members taking up the challenge. The Annual meeting then took place.  Sue gave a report of the last year in which members celebrated their 95th birthday,  she concluded by thanking committee and members for all their hard work and looked forward to the next 5 years and celebrating the centenary. A big thank you to two members leaving the committee Gwen and Maureen - each being given a card and plant.  Two new committee members were welcomed - Pam being Vice President and Jenny - Minute Secretary. The President will continue. The December meeting is the Christmas meal which will take place at Browston Hall on December 11th  meeting at Ditchingham Village Hall at 12.00
